Location: London
Salary: Competitive + benefits

We are looking for an editorial big-hitter for one of the most coveted jobs in corporate journalism – leading the award-winning team on BT Today, the multi-channel flagship employee news service for BT.

You’ll be talking to an audience of over 150,000 employees, contractors and pensioners - based in 170 countries around the world. You’ll also be taking on a world-class London-based editorial centre of excellence.

You will probably already earn in excess of £50k and be looking for a real step-change in salary, plus big company rewards (bonus, car, health care, pension etc)

About you

We are looking for a really substantial editorial figure with a track record of success from the world of newspapers, the web or broadcast media to take over from our award-winning editor in chief, who is retiring after 18 years.

You will:

  • Be a strategist who is also a hands-on editor who can write, design and produce print and web pages, and who can motivate the editorial team.
  • Be a highly experienced writer, editor and senior editorial manager, with at least two years’ senior management experience and maybe five as an editor.
  • Ideally be an experienced corporate communications specialist – or have senior editorial and management experience within a quality news organisation.
  • Report to the director of internal communications, and work together in strategic partnership with the chairman, CEO, business leaders, senior management team, your readers and message owners.
  • Manage a budget in excess of £1 million, be commercially aware and demonstrate sound business and financial judgment.
  • Be obsessed with getting it right first time every time – and providing an outstanding service which is as trusted by your readers as by the company.
  • Have a good working knowledge of publishing law and take full legal responsibility for the BT Today output.

How to apply: If this sounds like you – and if you feel up to this substantial challenge – please apply immediately via email to debbie.goate@bt.com

The closing date is 16th May 2008.

Timetable: Initial interviews will take place at BT Centre in London between 19th and 28th May 2008, with second interviews likely between 9th and 13th June. The successful candidate will ideally start work from 1st August 2008.

Selection terms:

Selection will be by sift, followed by interviews of the most suitable candidates. There is no right of appeal against non selection. We are committed to equal opportunities through a policy known as “Valuing Diversity”. This aims to ensure that no individual receives unfavourable treatment on the grounds of gender, age, religion/belief, marital status, disability, race or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression or caring responsibilities.
